I wanted to get away from my smartphone and I wanted a phone with full keyboard (not worried about it being kosher). This was the choice I went with and I'm mostly happy with it, but there are some things I wish were better.
• It came with Waze and Gmail even though the description says it does not. I decided I don't need them so I don't use them but Waze seemed to work well. Gmail seemed to be slow to update.
• I haven't had a problem with the phone shutting down when sliding the keyboard.
• The buttons work well for the most part. It seems the QWERTY keyboard isn't set fully so some buttons have a different push feel than others and I'm worried they may eventually fail.
• The button lights turn on randomly when I'm not using the phone and I don't know why. Makes me uneasy, although it may just be Google play services or something. I'm also wondering if it's reason the battery life is bad. It's surprisingly bad for what this phone is. I charge it daily but you'd think something like this would last a lot longer.
• There's been a steep learning curve remembering how to use a phone with buttons again.
• It comes with something called smartlist that randomly sends notifications. I disabled it and its notifications.
• Some group texts work. Others don't and I can't figure out why.
• I had to re-save all of my contacts because my previous phone didn't allow me to save my contacts to my SIM card.
• Call quality is pretty good. Once you lose a few bars though, the quality drops noticably.
• I'm using Verizon. Once I swapped my sim card to the K1, they started emailing me, saying my phone wasn't compatible. So I called using the K1 and support didn't know how to handle it. They tried to sell me a new phone! They also said I may eventually be unable to make calls and text, but after about 2 months, I've had no issues.
Overall, it's a good phone and exactly what I was looking for. There's a steep learning curve, and texting isn't as rewarding as I thought it would be so I end up calling people, which makes me feel more connected to family and friends. With more time, using the phone will be second nature. I'm spending less time on the internet and social media as well, which is the main reason I made the switch to a dumber phone. I'm happy with my purchase and had no issues dealing with Planet Cell. I'll be using Planet Cell when it's time to get a new phone again!
As best as I can tell anyway, it looks as if it indeed isn't very compatible with Verizon, from my experience, and from my research, with AT&T either, only with T-Mobile that I know of; and I don't have a T-Mobile plan, so I'm not a good 1 to say.
I have been using the phone for a couple weeks and the main thing that makes the phone good is it's sliding keyboard. The navigation is questionable, always having to put in a few extra inputs than you think you need to. It says it doesn't have wayz or email capabilities but it does, it's just really hard to navigate. Gmail being difficult to navigate but usable, and wayz opening and showing your location but not being able to do anything else.
The phone's build quality overall isn't ideal. The camera being 5 megapixels is not horrible but it's not exactly that good either. The back of the screen under the slider has a weird texture that doesn't look very sleek and makes you look a little silly using it when you're texting. The battery is okay. It will get you through the day if you keep it charged before you head out. It drains really quickly if you're listening to music only lasting about 12 hours.
Overall this phone will function as a dumb phone but it has a lot of quirks to get used to for such a high price.
This phone is a one of a kind device. a perfect solution for those who need to text and check their email, but don't want to have internet or distractions on their device. I am super adhd and easily distracted so this phone has been a life saver. Thank G-d for this phone, and thank you to all those who were part of making this one of a kind phone a reality! Thank you thank you thank you.
I needed help from service to stay connected, but can say after months of use I haven't had any serious issues, and I love this phone. I get about 2-3 days of battery. I use TMobile pre-paid without issues. for a "basic" phone, it has a great keyboard I wish other phones had
